Log Rolling

Log rolling at Skylake Yosemite Camp takes a 100-year-old lumberjack sport and turns it into one of the waterfront's most entertaining challenges. On specially made floating logs just off our Bass Lake docks, campers walk, spin, and balance — staying dry as long as their footwork holds out.

Spinning atop these logs builds real athletic skill: balance, coordination, quick feet, and core strength, all disguised as pure fun. And because the "penalty" for losing is a splash into warm lake water, campers line up to try again and again. First-timers start with slow rolls and a steadying hand from staff; by the end of a session many campers can duel a friend, both dancing on the log until one takes the plunge.

It's just plain fun — and it's exactly the kind of classic, screen-free camp activity Skylake has been running on Bass Lake since 1945.
