Accreditation -- The camp you select must be accredited by the American Camp Association and hold membership in the Western Association of Independent Camps. These two organizations require adherence to over 300 essential health and safety, program activity, staff training, and facility-maintenance guidelines. Skylake Yosemite Camp has been an active and long term member of both organizations.

Camp Philosophy -- Your camp's philosophy should match your personal philosophy. Are you looking for a focused educational experience or skilled training program... or is it more a traditional summer camp experience you want for your child? Skylake is a traditional camp with emphasis on an outdoor group living experience ...building self-worth, confidence, and individual growth.

Quality Staff -- Your camp should have a mature, well trained, and quality staff. And long-term private ownership is very important! Skylake's has had its current management team in place since 1995. Our entire staff participates in a one week training program at the beginning of every season. All staff must be enrolled in or have graduated from a 4-year University and be CPR and First Aid Certified. Most are also life guard certified.

Camper Return Rate -- Your camp should have a high return rate of both campers and staff. Lifelong friendships can only develop over multiple summers together. Skylake is proud of our high rate of return for campers, year after year. Many of our Skylake administrative staff and counselors have previously been Skylake campers, providing tremendous continuity of friendships, memories, and "Skylake Magic."

Staff to Camper Ratio -- This is historically an important measuring stick for the quality of a summer camp. Skylake normally employs 62 counselors plus a support staff of 25, to assure thorough and quality supervision for our 210 campers. Our campers reside in small cabin groups with both their camp counselor and a relief counselor.

Program Flexibility -- Your camp should allow flexibility for the camper. Do the campers select their own activities or are they assigned? Skylake operates much like a college campus, with campers controlling their own activities and their out-of-camp trips.

Program Diversity -- Your camp should offer a wide choice of activities and an opportunity to experience them all. Skylake's activities include lake swimming, water skiing, kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, backpacking, tennis, basketball, volleyball, archery, ropes course training, camp crafts, ceramics, nightly campfires, trips to Yosemite National Park, and much more!

Location, location, location -- Your camp should be in a great setting! Skylake, first and foremost, offers a camp on a beautiful 5-1/2 mile long, warm-water lake. It's a dream location in the mountains, on a lake, and with the grandeur of Yosemite in our own backyard!
