Day Trips include
Yosemite National Park to the Mariposa Grove where the Giant
Sequoias await and beyond, to The Valley floor itself. Trips to
Yosemite Valley are very popular, campers can visit Glacier
Point for spectacular views of the majestic valley, hike the
famous Mist Trail to the top of Vernal Falls, while Nevada Falls
beckons in the distance.
Overnight
Trips are great for all ages looking for a camping outing to
a nearby natural attraction such as Whiskey Falls or a canoe
adventure to the end of the lake for camping at Rec Point.
Amazing beauty surrounds Skylake. Overnights provide a quick but
memorable outing for those who don’t feel like venturing out on
the extended back pack trips, but still want to get a taste of a
camp out. Meals are made by the campfire as campers all take
part and enjoy the bonds and lessons formed in the outdoors.
Trips staff prepare all the necessities of the overnight so
younger campers don’t have to think about the many details of
camping.
Backpacking Trips into the Ansel Adams Wilderness are the
“piece de resistance”! Our two night backpack trips are a true
treat and form bonds and memories, not to mention skills that
last a lifetime. Trips to Jackass Lake and Madera Peak are among
the favorites. Jackass Lake sits about 3 miles from the
trailhead on the opposite side of Bass Lake from Skylake up
Beasore Drive. Atop Madera Peak 360 degree views of the Sierras
await as well as breathtaking vistas to several lakes, valleys
and notable peaks. The camp site at Jackass Lake is quiet and
serene and campers enjoy taking a step back and enjoy relaxing
by the cool alpine lake. Meals are a group effort as all of the
hikers also take part in transporting the food to the camp site.
Trip staff prepare meals with help from those campers looking to
take part in that aspect of the adventure. Priority on all back
packing trips goes to older campers who are attending Skylake
for four weeks.
A note about our Trips Staff
Skylake’s Trip Staff is uniquely qualified for backpacking trips
and all are certified in Red Cross Wilderness First Aid and CPR
as well as certified Lifeguards. All trip staff must be at least
21 years of age and are screened very heavily for a high level
of maturity and devotion. At least one Wilderness First Aid
trained staff member will attend every out of camp trip.
