Q & A
Here are answers to commonly asked questions about our Family
Camp.
What is the Space Availabillty?
Skylake accommodates approximately 32 families with a maximum of
135 guests for a family camp. The number varies, but anywhere
from 75% to 100% of our guests return each year. There are only
a few available openings for cabins each year.
How soon can I reserve a cabin?
All guests from the previous summer have a deadline of January
15th to retain their particular cabin and particular weekend.
Only after January 15th does enrollment open for new families.
Why are there no scheduled family camps
between the middle of June and the middle of August?
Skylake is a traditional summer camp for kids hosting 210
campers.
Do you offer childcare?
Unfortunately we do not. However, families are
usually very quick to form co-op arrangements of caring for each
other’s toddlers. In addition, you will quickly realize that
Skylake is like an old neighborhood and the kids just go out and
play.
What activities do you offer?
There are two different types of activities offered at Skylake.
There are activities that are supervised by the camp counselors
and there are activities that are available for families with no
supervision. Skylake counselors are in charge of the craft shop
every morning, portions of the ropes course at scheduled times,
horseback riding, ski boat driving, and evening campfire. The
balance of the activities such as canoes, kayaks, volleyball,
archery, tennis, are all unsupervised and available at no charge
with all of the equipment provided. Not all of the activities
that are available during children’s camp are available during
family camp.
What is the meal schedule?
Typical Weekend Schedule:
Thursday - arrival after 4 p.m. No Meals Served
Friday - Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Saturday - Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Sunday - Breakfast and Lunch
The bunkhouses are rustic, how rustic?
We use the term bunkhouse so as to not confuse guests. There are
no gingham curtains. The bunkhouses contain four sets of bunk beds.
There is no electricity or toilets in the bunkhouses. You will
need to bring a sleeping bag and a flashlight.
Ok, there are no bathrooms in the
bunkhouses, where are the shower houses and what are they like?
There are four shower houses on the property. The cabins are
clustered around the shower houses and no cabin is more than 35
yards from a shower house. The shower houses all have modern
showers, toilets, and sinks.
What else do I need to bring?
The day time temperatures are normally very warm. Dress is very
casual with shorts and t-shirts being essential. Nights can get
cool, so long pants and jackets are advisable. You will need your
toiletry items, swim suit, towels, flashlight, and a big smile.
If you plan on riding horses you will need closed-toe shoes and
long pants. Skylake provides all sports equipment and
lifejackets.
Is the food any good?
Skylake takes enormous pride in its food. We BBQ a lot of items,
everything is fresh, most of the fruits and vegetables are
organic, and there is a huge salad/vegetable buffet table for almost
every lunch and dinner. Our dinner entrees include salmon,
steaks, chicken, ribs along with different pastas. Lunches are
traditional burgers, pizza, Mexican buffet, and sandwiches.
Breakfasts include everything from both hot and cold cereals,
fresh fruit and juice, eggs, bacon, potatoes and bagels. You
won’t be hungry and we doubt you will be disappointed.
It all sounds good, how do I learn more
and sign up?
The easiest and best way is to call Natalie in the office at (559) 642-3720. Space is very limited
so the only way to know if there are any bunkhouses left is to
speak with someone in the office.
Skylake is a non smoking facility and we cannot accommodate
pets. |
